Musical instrument insurance:
optimal protection for your instruments

Our insurance is open to anyone whose country does not require them to take out a policy with an insurance company in their country of residence. This negotiated policy, for which ABG Assurances holds exclusive rights, is underwritten by HELVETIA in France.

Insure your musical instrument: conditions, coverage and membership

Apply for insurance
  • Which musical instruments can be insured?

We insure all musical instruments, regardless of their type, age, manufacture (student or handmade) and how they work (electric or not). A separate, specific music insurance policy can cover audio equipment.

We have no value limit for insuring your instruments. However, for collections worth €800,000 or instruments with a unit value of above that value, we recommend our ‘valuable instruments’ policy.

Accessories, such as sound equipment, cases and stands, are also covered. Cases not declared in the policy are insured up to a limit of £300 per case in the event of total damage or theft of the insured instrument.

  • Certified valuation: what is the value I am insured for?

When taking out your policy, you will need to provide proof of the value of your instrument dated within the last two years, unless you provide us with a rental agreement.

The value stated in this document, which must be established by a professional familiar with the instrument, will be used as a reference when settling claims and calculating your premium.

We recommend that you renew this certification every five years.

A certificate of authenticity may be required, depending on the instrument to be insured.

  • My insurance cover: what types of risks am I insured against?

All accidental material damage is covered: fire, breakage, theft, loss, etc. The theft cover is very comprehensive: for example, theft without forced entry is covered.

Transportation is covered, but ‘theft from a passenger vehicle’ is only optional for instruments valued at less than €15,000. Above this amount, cover is not available.

Damage caused by weather events or atmospheric variations is covered, subject to an excess of €120.

  • Vehicle theft cover option: terms and conditions

This option is only available for instruments with a valuation of less than €15,000 and is subject to an additional premium. It covers material losses resulting from the theft of your vehicle or break-in, on the express condition that the instruments were placed in a locked boot.

The cover does not apply to vehicles whose bodywork configuration allows the instruments to be seen from the outside, unless otherwise agreed in cases of bulky instruments, and is subject to a 15% additional premium.

  • Where am I covered?

You can choose between coverage at your home only or anywhere.

In this sense, ‘anywhere coverage' means at home, in conservatoires, concert halls, on the street and so on.

  • In which countries am I covered?

Coverage is worldwide, except for countries listed as being at war.

To be covered in countries declared to be at war, a specific extension is required for the duration of your trip.

  • What is the duration of the policy?

Your policy has a term of one year with tacit renewal, subject to two months' notice of termination, as with all insurance contracts under French law.

Temporary cover is also available on request.

Compensation in the event of damage to your instrument

Compensation: repairs, loss and the total destruction of the musical instrument

All repairs are reimbursed up to the value of the instrument specified in the policy document. No excess applies except for damage caused by natural disasters and climatic or atmospheric phenomena.

In the event of the total loss or destruction of the instrument, compensation shall not exceed the value stated in the contract.

If, despite being repaired, the instrument suffers a loss in value, its depreciation shall be compensated up to a limit of 50% of the value stated in the contract.

Additional insurance cover: rental and travel expenses

If repairable damage is needed, we can cover either:

  • the cost of renting a replacement instrument of the same type and value for the duration of the repairs, up to a limit of 10% of the value of your instrument as stated in the contract and for a maximum period of 60 days;
  • the cost of transporting your instrument to your instrument repairer up to a limit of 10% of the value of the instrument as stated in the contract and up to a maximum of €300.

What are the premiums for instruments? Tailor your cover to suit your requirements!

Ask your instrument maker or an ABG policyholder for a recommendation to receive a discount.

  • Annual coverage

Your premium is calculated based on the value and the applicable premium rate according to the insured capital amount.

The higher the capital amount, the lower the premium rate.

Our minimum premium, including VAT, is €60.35.

  • Temporary coverage

Temporary insurance covering musical instruments for a period of less than one year, for the duration of a concert, audition or trial loan with a view to sale, is available.

The cover is the same as that offered on an annual basis worldwide, but with no option for ‘theft from a vehicle’ cover.

The premium is based on the value of the instrument and the duration of the insurance.

The minimum flat-rate premium is €66.23 per year, including VAT.
